My Preliminary Pages

In preparation to building up these two pages of my school magazine, I did some target research. We interviewed some of the teachers from our school to gain knowledge on what they personally want to see in my school magazine. I also just did abit of reading up on the internet just to see how to do the basic skills on the program pages.so that I know a lot of the techniques I should use in my magazine we researched some key terms and then labeled an already existing magazine which helped me when it came to organizing my front page.

I have created my preliminary front page and contents pages. I haven’t used apple macks before so learning the different programs was a little tricky for me.

What I feel went well was the way I managed to organize the images around my front page. I tried to create a sort of distance effect to try and leave a sort of open feel to the school however my use of the program I feel didn’t achieve that as I’m not that experienced with the program pages, which is were I designed my two pages. My title ‘Once upon a CBA’, title I didn’t want to be the average written title at the top of the pages so I just put it into a different font and presented it down the left hand side of the page, which I think was quite creative on my behalf but hey that might just be me. The feature titles around the corner of my page I decided to do in WOB.I feel I needed to do this, as my background image is quite dark in various places so to make the text stand out fully I put it in white.
I used a bullet on my front page to try and highlight something that I know a lot of students are interested in.

What went well on my contents page was the images I feel I did use my images in a really smart way, trying to get across that student are important but books hold the details. I have labeled and numbered the different pages so in theory it’s a contents pages but the way I have presented it makes me doubt it in some sort of way.in my contents page I have decided to feature some of the students in the school just to ring home that it is a school magazine however, I feel there needs to be some sort of more text on there like maybe a quote from a teacher. I feel the colors I used again went well with my current school theme and overall in my opinion with a few tweaks it will be okay.

Went I thought went bad thought my process into building these pages is my lack of skills in the technology on the computer. I feel that if I already had more of an understanding than just knowing the basics I could have made my magazine look quite smart and what a professional magazine is like however, one of interviewers said that a professional approach might just be to boring. I also feel that If I would have planned the pages before I done them and didn’t just do it blind it would be a lot more organized and presented.

overall id say these pages are not up to the standard i would have hoped, and i hope to learn the new skills to improve on my assessed pages.

  1. I like the name of your magazine. I also like the images you have used on your contents page and the way they are laid out. To improve, i think you should change the font on your contents page so it stands out more.

  2. I like the colours you have chosen as none of them have clashed, they fit in well with the background image you have used on your front page. Also the images you have used on the content page are presented well. To improve you could add more colour to your magazine front cover.

  3. I like the use of the image of the girl in front of the books for your contents page. I like that there are many colours on your front cover which makes it eye catching. Your sell lines/ cover lines are good as they don't give too much away about the stories inside the magazine. I also like the name of your magazine. To improve I would experiment using photoshop and online photo editors on some of your images, and use some different fonts to what you have at the moment.
