Deconstruction of a school magazine Front Cover-Part One

Deconruction of a school magzine:
This magazine as you look at it immediately draws your eyes to it but I found as you look closer into the magazine itself its quite plain and dull. The colour purple represents royalty and expense which suggests this is no ordinary school; it implies that this school is maybe a private school or above standard.
Everything on a magazine is done on purpose and this schools attempt to express that they are not a standard public school, I feel was done in a poor way. As you dive into the magazines actual structure you get the sense of a budget in the school which takes away the higher standard that they wanted to get across from their colour scheme. For instance the sticker that says, ‘free’ on it is just a horrible use of a computer skills it just makes the magazine in my opinion look tacky.

The people itself bring across mixed messages as both of them are standing quite awkwardly which suggests this is quite a scripted picture however it sends away a sort of strict feel to the school. The man’s hair for example is a very sort of 40 year old dad look which could maybe imply that he’s not with people in a standard school and doesn’t know the latest trend and the women’s hair doesn’t have any bright colours which again suggests a strict school but also how well brought up she is suggesting a high standard school. Both of their uniforms are tightly done up every button crossed suggesting a smart dress and a well-mannered school.

Now there words itself tell another story we know that it’s a school magazine as one of the major story in this magazine with the subtitle ‘school food’ and where would you most probably see that conversational brought up in a school magazine. Now others words that give us information into the school s life are the names mentioned in the text ‘Alicia wryer’ the name itself sound quite upper class and unique which could imply a private school.

Now there is the name ‘The griffin’ with its emblem at the bottom of the magazine. Griffins are a symbol of the sun, wisdom, vengeance, strength, and salvation, which maybe could reflect all the skills, emotion and tasks that you will endure while at this school.

Overall I feel this magazine is quite plain and bare and doesn’t get across the message that I think it’s trying to get across. The front cover has just two colours that yes are effective but after a while just abit boring. I feel that although the griffin itself brings a sense of power to the school I feel that’s it miss placed on the magazine and therefore that power doesn’t come across as it should. Overall I feel this magazine is cheaply made and not thought through.
