My ideal consumer + My findings

Now I know that I want my music genre to be show tune.

Some names could maybe be:

  • show Tune
  • wicked voices
  • Pop-u-lar
I have chosen the name 'showtune' because it relates to much with the musicals oitself. I feel this title also relates so much to music and the sounds its just a perfect match and also because my genre is aimed at such a specific group this name really states that musical taste that the people have.

My target audience is:
sally purple is a 18 year old girl looking forward to proceeding in her further education. Her personality is very out-going,now she doesn't like to be the centre of attention however she doesn't like to be ignored.

She is kind and sweet however you don't want to see her stressed  or be on her dark side. Her musical interested include classical to olden days much however she is partial to abit of pop. She is also interested in films such a the twilight saga and the old classics like the karate kid and back to the future. Sally is the type of person that doesn't follow the crowd she is the type to be out-standing from to mainstream population. She has a working class family and somewhere floating around the C1 and C2 as her mother is a sales assistant at the range and her father is the manager of the a small business in the town. Sally lives in a small town in the east midlands and has one little brother that annoys her when she trying to revise which is why she drowns the sound of him speaking out with the clear and powerful songs from the stage.

According to the 'Young + Rubicon' theory my genre is 'The Resigned' meaning these are predominantly older people with constant, unchanging values built up over time. For them, the past is bathed in a warm nostalgic glow.
they respect institution and enjoy acting in traditional roles.
their brand choices are driven by a need for safety and for economy. They choose above all what is familiar for them.
In life, their aim is basic it is to survive.

Also the bloomer and Kats theory of the uses of gratification appeals a hell of a lot in my blog as the gratification as my magazine aims alot of the entertainment business and as the songs often relate to shows therefore as it's not real maybe the audience uses this fantasy in the song as escapism.
______________
My second target audience market could be Mary. Mary is a 60 year old woman ready to retired from her working life and Mary is someone who would to focus on her music and watching of the latest shows in the west-end. Mary has a husband called bill and enjoys walks off with her dog and a relaxing canal trip in Cambridge twice very mouth. She likes to do the odd bit of sewing and knitting for her younger grandchildren. She gets up at 6:00 every Sunday morning to prepare the roast and listen to Elaine page skittle through some show tunes, she hums along to them. Mary likes Shows because they tell a story a life that was too good to life or a sad story with a deep meaning she loved them all.

Results from my Target Audiences:

There are some more results from my researched released later than this post, however I have decided to callaborate the results into the post.

The name of my magazine, here are the results:

I will have later explained the name that I have chosen however, I have not explained why I didn't go for the name that the majority voted for.I didn't go for the majority vote because I personally felt that the name 'Show Tune' fit the genre best and the knowing that it is also the title of the genre and also this title means I can take my magzine go down a really musical route.

Picture Analysis

Picture Analysis:

Two types of pictures:

Ø  Group shot

Ø  Live shots

Ø  Home shoots
Main types to consider are live shots, posed shots and impromptu shots.
Impromptu shots- this is where nothings are planned it’s all just free and natural.
Advantages of an impromptu shot:

Ø  You can get more emotion from the shot.

Ø  Not a lot of equipment is required.

Ø  Always get the unexpected.
Disadvantages of an impromptu shot:

Ø  You can’t direct the stars therefore you might not get the result you were hoping for.

Ø  You might get someone in shot that instant meant to be.

Ø  Something could go wrong whilst shooting.
Difference between a live shot and an impromptu shot as live shots will be shot whilst the person is preforming there talent however an impromptu shot can be filmed anywhere

Live shot- A picture of your band preforming live.

Advantages of using a live shot:

Ø  Lives shots look more natural

Ø  It’s getting a really feel for how say the band performs on stage.

Ø  A live shot can have a lot more freedom with regards to the people being shot.
Disadvantages of using a live shot:

Ø  Something could go wrong during the shooting.

Ø  You can’t manipulate the people like you can with posed shots.

Ø  Not so much equipment has to be lugged around by the camera man.

Posed shoots- This is where the camera man directs the talent. This can also include the use of props. Another thing is mise-en-scene.
Advantages of a posed shot:

Ø  Get a grantee of quality.

Ø  You can manipulate the people.
Disadvantages of a posted shot:

Ø  It can look too forced.

Ø  Time consuming and expensive.

Ø  A lot of equipment to carry around with you.

Mise-en-scene means everything you can see in the shot.
Example: Body language, lighting and Facial expression and clothes, props and make-up. Every little aspect in shot. Proxemics how close someone is to someone else.

 Picture analysis:

I love this picture because you can see that it is just so importunity. It looks like he didn’t even know there was someone there with a camera and I feel this shows so much of Pennies smith’s personaily. From this is can deduce that he has sort of a risky personality like he’s preforming on stage with his guitar and decided to kill the instrument that he was preforming with like he doesn’t have a care in the world. If I could describe this picture in one word I would describe it as well timed. The picture was captured just as the guitar hit the floor and smashed into a thousand fragments of wood flying everywhere. Also from the way  his legs and back are angled you can tell that he was grabbing that guitar and swinging it with force towards the floor. The fact the photographer has been able to edited the photograph he captured so that light contrasts that much is incredible. Overall I feel this picture is spectually captured with every inch of this picture filled with madness it's like every inch has a story line like the top right hand corner all we see is the base of the guitar flying through the air with force however,to the left of the guirtar and the silowet of the other band member what looks like shouting down a microphone shows so much emotion that the story contines through the picture.Even the microphone stand that has fallen over behind Pennie gives me the sense of agressive like someone must have thrown it over in rage which a sign passion for th music or hate within the life.

learning Pixlr and The Problem of Editing

I have never edited a picture up to this point, so learning how to use an editing program was abit tricky but we went through it step by step and then was left to have a play and go and design different things.first we add a second layer and then i worked on the second copy and  i made it black and white by going to the adjustments and putting the saturation slider all the way to the left causing it to turn white and black.then i grabbed the eraser tool and rubbed away the bits a wanted to change colour so that the original layer seeped through. now i originally had the face, ears and the title erased but like an idiot i accidentally closed the tab which meant i lost it so i quickly went back into and did something little just so i can show abit of process.

Editing can lead to all sorts of problems thou as it can lead to hyper-reality.
'hyperreality is generally defined as a condition in which what is real and what is fiction are blended together so that there is no clear distinction between where one ends and the other begins. It is a postmodern philosopy that deals in part with semiotics, or the study of the signs that surround people in everyday life and what they actually mean'.
source:http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-hyperreality.htm
People on magazines exist but they are not really there because they have probably been enhanced, as they have been photo edited.

A person is never real on a magazine because as soon as the stars have started to be edited it is no longer them, it’s hype reality.
The problems it can cause with the young team demographics is that especially teenage guys can aspire to be like there favourite celebrity however if that person has been edited that celebrity is no-longer really them,so if they want to be as skinny as kay perry chances are they aspiring to someone that isn't real which can cause problems like low self-self-asteam which is hard to fix as they are looking up at a fake person, that person doesn't exist anywhere in the world.it can also affect men because they can say like i want a girlfriend like that (pointing to a magazine) the chances are that celebrity has been edited therefore essentially they are looking for an avatar a fake person.

Uses of Gratification in my Music Magazine

Uses of Gratification:

My music magazine is about musicals with the music genre show tune, which we all know if clearly linked with the entertainment business.

Entertainment is one of the biggest uses of gratification within my magazine. My magazine will be very time consuming and a escape from reality. The musical genre for some people can be a emotional release as the songs and show develops. The enetertain feild can also be relaxing.

Information:Gaining knowlege through a newspaper of magazine kind of gives us a sense of secruitry as although we do this sub contiously like to keep tabs on people and know what they are up to.Also while sub coniously reading a magazine we are gaining knowlege so when theres information anywhere and we read it we are actually self learning.gaining knowledge may alos solve some life problems like seeking advice from advice problems or listening to people expressing there story might encorage you as well.also finding out about whats going on around you mostly is gained from reading so theres another use from the magazine.Overall just helping cure the general curiousity.

Another use of gratification is social interaction:like playing a video gaming and seeing other avartars and communicating is another interaction.also in terms of social interaction and social newtworking being able to interactwith family and friends that aren't close by is a type of social interaction. In my magazine it's like gaining a sense of belonging so talking directly to the audience would help my magazine be interactive.

Personal Identity:To gain a sense of how to act in public.Mainly people look up to people in a magazines therefore any magazines with people on the cover presents a model of behaviour which i know i can put in my magazine, which is also identifying with media's role models.looking up to models can also help you gain an insight in yourself which in a way can also build your confidence and if a magzine is in the much dept it can help you hold onto them quality's that you have from reading and listening to different medias.

Mood board-With my music genre Show Tune

I have chosen to do a musical genre called show tune, and above are all things that i would want to included on the front cover or on the most important pages in there.now because it's a musical magazine  obviously i have chosen to include a lot of musical shows in there and also a few of the cast and stage numbers.

3 Music Genres to think about

Genres of music

Pop:

Target Audience: pop music is aimed at a general audience rather then specific sort of music. It’s aimed at those with artistic qualities and Pop music was created to get people dancing or to encourage someone to do something to the beat of a song. AS I briefly mentioned it’s created to get people dancing which suggests to me that pop music is aimed at the younger generation as they might listen to it when studying or travelling to school
.
My thought on the magazine: This magazine is just full to the brim with techniques and information however, in my opinion it's like it was done by a child like they start a picture and it's great but then they don't know when to stop therefore it just becomes messy and confusing and just a little bit to childish .The headshot of oily murs just instantly suggest its a pop magazine as well as the massive give away for the magazine title, 'we <3 Pop'.Oily Murs looks really clingy in this picture if im honest it's almost like he's been standing in that pose for to long and he's now stuck in that position, like his hand is glued to his forehead and his teeth have are glued together. Also the thing is why are there never any ugly pop singers, to say this is magazine aimed at young teenagers the appeal they are doing to engage your readers is just wrong. The masthead itself is very bold and immediately draws my attention to tithe bullet in the bottom left hand corner presents a sell line within so although appealing to younger ages  it also has to appeal to the parents as they are the one buying from this magazine however, the use of the cheap looking heart in the title suggest that is a magazine aimed at the features name for the articles around the outside just looks although I away it done professionally it looks like its been done by a 5 year old and to be honest it looks tacky.

Pro's:
  • Good beats to listen to that really wake up and get you to dance around, which this magazine if feel is trying to get across.
  • Unique sounds come into different songs, not a lot of music is done by actual instruments and produced from a sound board to get unique sounds, which is good for a magazine as they don't have to focus on life less instruments.
  • Some artists are really well rounded singers with out the use of auto-tune, meaning they have more of a following, so if they are on the cover of the music more will buy it.
  • cons:
  • The same beat and tune tends to happen often, there same people on the magazine repeat, repeat, repeat.
  • Artist cheat and use auto-tune. Bad publicity for them and them being on the front cover can get bad publicity for the magazine.
  • Most of the songs are either about love, boy troubles (in Taylor swifts case) or parties, which means the same story's are repeated.

    Show tune:

  • Target audience: This music is aimed at the more confident group of people that like to break into song in the middle of a sentence just because you are that confident in life. Show tunes are slightly classical, however lively and out there it’s different from the ordinary chart musical. Shows tunes are used to describe a story and as it used to describe a story it might appeal to little children like I loved musicals when I was about 6-8,therefore the story theme could coordinate to the night time story's traditionally used to send your child to sleep. As people that are about to pick there careers and wanting to go into stage and television they might be introduced into the musical eara again however this time might carry there passion to it into there adult hood which will eventually grow from there. If you was to go up to some in the street and ask them the age of the listeners for genre show tune they would normally say the elder generation who goes to shows every year and who watches that show hosted by Andrew lord Webber, and although that it the typical audience it can appeal to the younger generation too.id say because of the price around £7.00 that it is aimed at middle to upper class going by the price.

My thoughts on the magazine: This magazine is portraying the stage production of wicked, which is a dark play a prequel to the wizard of OZ showing how the wicked witch was turned into THE wicked witch of the west. The Main picture itself tells a story like straight away even if you didn’t know about Broadway you would guess that it a witch with the hat and green skin and black clothes. the masthead presented at the bottom explains the information about the magazine. However the Green font kind of adds a horror feels to it as you know from the picture with her green skin it relates to that horror feel as the witch wasn’t originally green the green was a symbol of her becoming evil portraying that evil theme. The sell lines within promote the current shows and current information in a quick and snappy form perfect for a front cover and overall this would defiantly it would be something i would go into a shop and buy myself. one thing i would point out about this magazine as it doesn't use many of the normal techniques that most magazines use which although make it niche might make it not so appealing to others. There are some bad points as there maybe instant enough information about the contents of a magazine. Also although the image is dark maybe the whole front cover is to dark, although in my personal opinion i like it.I also like the this magazine doesn't give any sexiest appeals yes she is probably a pretty women but as she has green paint smeared over her face wearing a witches outfit makes me think this magazine isn't trying to gain new readers because the cover picture isn't the normal appealing magazine.
Pro's:
  • You can make the magazine as dark and menacing or as happy as the show lets you.
  • Front cover can show someone in the play really famous portraying a important character.
  • There is so much information about the stage and up-coming shows that you would never have to think about what to out on there.
  • If your on stage it means you can sing so it is rare to have someone who can't sing<sing the song.
cons:
  • The music can go on as it's not the length of a standard pop song.
  • There's a specific audience for it, so if you didn't like musicals you wouldn't buy this magazine.
  • apart from that one main images, adding other images might disturb the darkness of say this magzine,so some people may call it plain.
Note: It took me around 20 minutes on Google to find a magazine that even slightly links to the music genre show tunes. This is what I will be doing my music magazine on.

country music:

Target Audience: The target audience for country music seems to be around the middle age area I'd say with a specific age 20-40 years. I know the area of country music is becoming quite the thing as there are a lot of TV shows then there were like 'Hannah Montana' and 'Dolly Parton hosted shows. I hate being stereotypical but the country music is more aimed at the American viewers specifically in the south like Texas because that's were country music originated from. As seen by the following magazine by the price ide a say its aimed at people in the middle class with jobs and that came afford to spend on these luxary's.Maybe as it's country and it is all about the instruments the owners of all these magazines play an instrument.

My thought about the magzine:My through about this magazine first of all the dolly patron head shot of her turned away was the right idea, however I am thankful they put her in winter clothes because no one wants to see that. now everyone knows dolly patron and the different fonts and everything that they have used really makes the magazines look bold and professional. Especially with the use of WOB or BOW which ever way round as the titles colours it really make it stand out from the rest of the magazine. The magazine it-self really makes you know that it's a country magazine as that's the title and there I a massive picture of the country singer on it.It has a barcode with a masthead which suggest a professional take. However I have noticed there are know feature names for the articles inside with in think is quite clever because the reader will have to pick it up and look inside and once you pick it up why put it back so the reader will keep it in your hand and go and buy it that's a clever strategy.
now by the price of this magazine id say the magazine is aimed at the working class as it's expensive in my option but not that expensive that you can't buy it every week or month.

pro's:

  •   you can take so many spins with a country magazine that more branched could develop  from your magazine.
      • Those on the front cover you will know, meaning although all the readers will buy it a lot of her followers will as well.
      • There so many artist but the genre of music is still pretty niche meaning any magazine that comes out is quite unique.
    • Cons:
    • Not everyone likes country music therefore that magazine will be ignored.
    • Thee is not that many country artist to write story's and about and appear on the front cover.
    • the country music is popular everywhere and might not be involved in every supermarket as they might not know about it.
